A GUIDE TO JOURNALING BIBLES BY TIFFANY RICHARDS

ABOUT THE ARTIST: @Tiffer73 on Instagram

I have been journaling in my Bible for about 7 months, since January of 2015. I began Bible Journaling as a way to memorize Bible verses in a fun and memorable way!

I started out simple, by doodling the verse in the side column with my Pigma Micron® pens, which are top quality for writing, drawing, or outlining on your Bible pages. It continued to get more elaborate and creative as I kept playing. I then discovered the Documented Faith Facebook group and the creativity just exploded from there! I have not had any formal art training, but I do come from a family of artists!

PREPPING THE PAGES OF THE BIBLE

Some might wonder how you would color on the super thin Bible pages. The entire line of Gelly Roll® pens and Permapaque® markers are absolutely perfect for journaling on the thin Bible pages without any other prep done to the page beforehand. If you wanted to do some heavier coloring with products like the Koi® Coloring Brushes you will need to prepare your page to hold that ink. You can use a variety of products to accommodate these water soluble markers such as Gesso, or a Gel Medium. I prefer the Liquitex brand Fluid Matte Medium. It is clear, and has a thinner consistency than the previously mentioned items which means it will dry with a smooth surface. I use a make up sponge to apply. You'll want to be sure to get complete coverage over your page because if you miss a spot it will be very noticeable when you begin to color.

KOI COLORING BRUSH PENS

Coloring with the Koi Coloring Brushes on top of this texture is really quite fun! The color kind of floats on top and makes it a real treat to blend the colors together!

GELLY ROLL PENS

The Gelly Roll Stardust, Metallic, and Gold & Silver Shadow pens give your design that extra touch by adding some shine and sparkle. They glide on the paper like butter and roll out just as smooth on top of the Fluid Medium.

The Gelly Roll pens are my "go to" pens to use for Bible Journaling. They are the most versatile whether you want to simply write or fill in some color! They lay down smooth, silky ink with no significant bleed to the back of the page. I love to take my Bible Journaling with me while traveling. When I need to keep my supplies limited I never leave home without my Bible, my Microns and my Gelly Rolls!

TEMPLATES

I made templates for each of the projects pictured so that you can try them yourself! All you need to do is print the PDF and cut out the design. Place the image on the back of the page that you plan to journal on. Once your placement is where you want it, temporarily tape it down with some washi tape, which makes it easily removable when you're done. Now you can easily trace the image onto your Bible page!
